We would like to introduce you to Philip A. Duckworth, Auctionata expert in English and European Furniture.
Philip Duckworth is a specialist in English and European furniture. He studied languages at university and then history of art at the Study Centre for the History of the Fine and Decorative Arts.
He has spent more than thirty years in the London auction business, working in the furniture departments at Phillips, followed by fifteen years at Christie’s. This work involved cataloguing and valuations throughout Europe. Countless quantities of furniture from the 16th to the 19th centuries have passed through his hands, providing unparalleled experience.
He has written a number of articles for antiques magazines and contributed to several furniture dictionaries. Mr. Duckworth is also an experienced auctioneer and has lectured regularly on furniture to a wide variety of audiences.
At Christie’s, he became a Director and senior specialist before leaving in 2008. He now works as a consultant and still conducts auctions and lectures on furniture.
Mr. Duckworth is fascinated by his subject: interpretations of forms produced in different regions and countries — and also in the cabinet-makers themselves whose techniques and use of materials created not only functional but beautiful furniture.
Philip A. Duckworth lives and works in the United Kingdom.
