We would like to introduce you to Adrienne Astrologo, Auctionata expert in Vintage Handbags (post 1950).
Adrienne Astrologo worked in the fashion industry in New York for 25 years as a textile merchant before meeting her antiques dealer husband Marco Astrologo and moving to Philadelphia to join him. At the time, Mr Astrologo travelled the country exhibiting sculpture, paintings, and the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany at national fairs and trade shows.
Having collected designer handbags for years, she decided to put out a few in his booth at a show and a new business was launched. Early on, thanks to her deep knowledge of fashion history, Ms Astrologo focused on vintage bags from the 1950s through 70s but she quickly escalated her offerings to the top designers of the contemporary fashion world: Chanel, Hermes, Judith Leiber, and the like. Following in her footsteps, Mr Astrologo changed his focus to Louis Vuitton and Goyard, amassing one of the largest collections of trunks in the country.
In 2007, Schiffer Publishing approached Ms Astrologo to write a book documenting the numerous makers and designers in her vast collection. This book "High Fashion Handbags" is now an invaluable reference for collectors. A recent special acquisition was a pair (one black, one white) of evening bags signed „Kenneth Lane for Rosenfeld“. These are rare examples of the work by Lane in the 1960s, before he launched his eponymous jewellery brand "Kenneth Jay Lane".
Adrienne Astrologo lives and works in Philadelphia.
