Already as a young girl, Karin Hawkes’ life revolved around art in all its forms. She studied numerous art subjects including Photography, Ethnology, and Art History in Berlin and London.
An encounter with the art of the kilim proved to be a key event in the life of Ms. Hawkes and in 1980 she co-founded the Neiriz Gallery in Berlin. Over the last 30 years she has organized countless exhibitions, catalog publications, and projects in the world of carpets and rugs.
Ms. Hawkes provided structural analyses for the publication of the world famous Vok collection. She has also produced exhibition projects with the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin and the Ethnological Museum in Berlin-Dahlem, all receiving international recognition and high attendance numbers. Ms. Hawkes maintains her expertise in the field through her retail activities and by continuously studying the world market through literature and auction catalogs.
