We would like to introduce you to Betsy Thomas, Auctionata expert in British and European Paintings as well as Impressionist & Modern Paintings.
Betsy Thomas is a European art expert whose focus covers all European schools of the 19th and early 20th century including French, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch. She began her career in 1996 at Christie’s in New York, holding positions as researcher, cataloguer and proposal writer in Old Master Paintings & Drawings, Prints, Impressionist & Modern Art and 19th Century European Art departments. Her longest tenure was as Vice President and Associate Specialist in the 19th Century European Paintings Department, a position she held for seven years. In this role she managed high-value appraisals and sale consignments working directly with private collectors, museums and estates.
In her current position as a private art advisor she assists clients in forming high quality collections as well as researching the history of their collections. Her most interesting project to date was researching the family collection of the composer Arturo Toscanini.
Ms. Thomas holds a B.A. in the History of Art from Pomona College and an M.A. from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She is fluent in Italian and holds a particular interest in Italian painters of the 19th century as well as British Victorian art.
She authored a series of essays in the recently released Masterpieces of Orientalist Art: The Shafik Gabr Collection, published by ACR Editions in 2012.
