This bronze bas-relief by Ugo Attardi is titled ‘Penelope Insidiata dai Proci’ [Penelope beset by suitors]. It depicts on a central, elevated medallion the finely worked naked body of Penelope portrayed from the rear. She is surrounded by several carved faces that symbolize the suitors who courted for Penelope during Odysseus’ absence. A certificate of authenticity by Edizioni Eldec S.p.A., Rome, is included.
The framed and noble patinated bas-relief is signed and numbered at the lower right ‘Attardi 139/990’. It is in a very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. The dimensions of the relief are 21.5 x 21.5 cm, while the framed dimension measure 55 x 55 cm. (nlu)
