The painting is in good condition; discolored consistent with age and with rubbed spots due to the frame at the edges. There are overall scattered tiny marks and a small loss of color can be seen upper right. The fiberboard is vertically little trimmed lower left and a particle of the frame can be seen at the lower edge. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear.
Edward Harrison Compton (1881-1960)
Edward Harrison Compton who was born in 1881 in Feldafing on Lake Starnberg was the son of the Alpine painter Edward Theodore Compton. Compton junior began his education under his farther before he went to London to study at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. The artist returned to Bavaria later and basically followed his father’s example. His motifs were Bavarian and Italian mountain landscapes as well as sceneries from England and Sicily represent his oeuvre. Color and paint application recall the paintings of the impressionists.
