The sheet has been mounted on cardboard at several points. There is a horizontal fold mark to the center. The lower margin shows foxing. The frame shows minor traces of use.
Stanislas Stückgold (1868-1933)
Born in Warsaw, Stanislas Stückgold studied at the local Polytechnic University and became an engineer. Afterwards, he studied chemistry and philosophy in Zurich and at the Sorbonne in Paris. After his military service, he worked in a laboratory in Berlin and later in Düsseldorf. Afterwards, he worked as an engineer in Poland and England, amongst others. In the early 20th century he began to work as an artist. He studied art in Warsaw and then in Munich. Some years later he was a student of Henri Matisse in Paris. In 1913 he moved back to Munich. He exhibited at the gallery Hans Goltz in Munich and the gallery ‘Der Sturm’, directed by Herwarth Walden in Berlin. Stückgold also opened a painting school in Munich, which he managed until 1921. From 1923 to 1926 he was the director of another art school in Paris. Stückgold’s favorite subjects inlcude landscapes, still lifes and signs of the zodiac. (cko)
