The varnish of the painting has been applied a bit uneaquel and is heavily discolored. Otherwise the work is in good condition.
Emile Albert Gruppe (1896-1978)
Raised up in Katwijk aan Zee/Holland, Emil Albert Gruppe studied in New York, Woodstock, Provincetown and at least at the Academie de la Grand Chaumière in Paris. Inspired by the Cape Ann painters, Gruppe first moved to Rockport and then settled down in East Gloucester to attend to painting landscapes and marine scenery. Inspired by the French Impressionists, he painted numerous sceneries of the Massachusetts coast, flooded with light and atmospheric mood.(rac)
