The painting is in good condition with fresh looking colors. The inspection under UV light reveals several strokes of retouching within the depiction, particularly to the sky. The varnish has been renewed. The frame has minimally worn.
Walter Moras (1856-1925)
Born in Berlin, the painter Walter Moras trained in the studio of the renowned marine and landscape painter Hermann Eschke. In 1876 he exhibited his first works at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin. Until 1910 he was represented regularly at the ‘Große Berliner Kunstausstellungen’. In his early artistic career he painted mainly on the island of Rügen and in Mecklenburg, later in the surroundings of Berlin and in the Spreewald. In his later works Moras created numerous large autumn and winter paintings. (cko)
