Bruce McLean (b. 1944)
The Glasgow-born artist studied at the city's Glasgow School of Art from 1961 to 1963. Afterwards, he changed to the Saint Martin's School of Art in London, where he studied under Anthony Caro and Philip King until 1966. In rebellion against the academic formalism that McLean felt with his teachers, he devoted himself to performances and sculptures which often show a satirical view of the art world. Since the mid-1970s, McLean dealt more and more with painting and film. He was a professor at various art schools, including the London Slade School of Fine Arts, where he worked since 1985 and worked as Head of Graduate Painting from 2002 to 2010. Bruce McLean's work has been on display in numerous exhibitions in renowned international museums. The artist lives and works in London. (cko)
