    The fill levels are excellent (< 2 cm). The labels and capsules are in very good condition. One of the capsules is damaged, an other one with minor loss of material. The cork is however still sealed.

    Roy Hersh, For the love of Port (2011): 92/100

    Fully evolved brick red throughout with a strawberry-pink meniscus. An ethereal nose and an unexpected surprise from Kopke: Strawberry, smoky leather note, toffee, mocha, cedar and Asian spice. A profound bouquet! Full and rich, yet maturing on the early side, but very enjoyable at the moment. Medium-full, zippy acidity and no signs of tannins here. Dense and perfectly in synch for current consumption with a super long finish.

    Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port.

    One of the most spectacular 1994s, this opaque purple-colored wine is an exotic, flamboyant, ostentatious port. Extremely fragrant and pungent, with a flashy display of jammy cassis, pepper, licorice, and truffles, this port is an attention-grabber. Awesomely rich, and full-bodied, with superb length, richness, and overall balance, it possesses a huge mid-palate, layers of flavor, an unctuous texture, and a blockbuster finish. Everything is in place, with the brandy and tannin well-integrated, even concealed by the masses of fruit and glycerin.

    Medium dark ruby with dark strawberry red rim. Austere nose required a lot of work swirling. Mostly purple fruit and floral fragrances. Medium weight, soft and subtle VP, quite elegant and smooth with loads of chalky tannins. Figgy, plums and cocoa, add depth to the middle. I like this a lot.

    Medium garnet color and fully transparent to the light ruby rim. Compelling notes of plum and kirsch, with supporting scents of spicy black licorice and sweet mocha. Corpulent yet elegant for its age, the Guimaraens blends dry blackcurrant fruit with the sweet flavor of Cheri-Suisse liqueur, leading to a tasty cocoa-milk chocolaty prolonged finish.

    The Fonseca Guimaraens 1996 has a very intense, powerful bouquet with blackberry, sloe, fresh figs and licorice. There are faint touches of toffee just underneath. The palate is well balanced with great structure and backbone with touches of raisin and white pepper towards the persistent, harmonious finish tinged with dates and raisin. This is a delightful, rather tenacious Guimaraens

    Distinctive, figgy but fragrant; beautiful flavour and length. Classic.

    Somewhat of a lightweight for Fonseca, but undeniably charming, this dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers a floral, exotic, flamboyant bouquet, a sweet, fleshy style, but not a great deal of weight or massiveness. Heady alcohol, sweet tannin, and a velvety texture make for a gorgeous finish.

    Full saturated ruby. Inky, brooding aromas of syrupy black fruits and violet. Dense, thick and tactile, with superb depth of flavor and compelling juicy sweetness. Finishes with powerful tannins and superb grip.

    Black purple. Much softer and gentler than the Taylor's. Spice, tannins. A big 'un. Fleshy.

    Inky ruby-purple color. Blackberry, cedar, tobacco and a powerful cigar smell. Nobody was smoking, go figure. Cassis and blackcurrant flavors prevail and show a brash tannic beast underlying the bright fruit flavors.
