Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002)
Eduardo Chillida comes from San Sebastian. In the age of 19 he moved to Madrid, so that he can study architecture in the university there. After that he visited the private academy „Círculo de Bellas Artes“. In 1948 he moved to Paris, where he started working with the medium iron. Three years later Chillida went back to his home place and very quickly advanced to a internationally accepted painter and graphic artist. Over decades he took part in numerous exhibitions, among which the Documenta in Kassel. In his works, plastic and graphic, the artist deals with the topic of the room and its borders. In 1958 he was granted the Big Price for Sculpture at the Biennale in Venice. The next exhibitions followed and in the 80s a lot of famous museums, such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, dedicated retrospectives to the artist. (fea)
