The painting made by the circle of the Flemish painter Frans Francken the Younger, who belonged to the famous painter family Francken, shows presumably the Bible story of Jacob and Esau – with view to an idyllic landscape and animals at the left side of the horizontal format.
The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. The varnish is slightly darkened. Tiny craquelure can be seen overall on the canvas and small pigment loss. Scattered marks can be seen. There are areas with scuffing due to the frame along the upper edges and corners of the canvas. There are a few retouched spots mainly at the left and at the right edge and two small holes are at the lower left and right edge of the painting. There is one spot with loss of material in the middle of the right edge. The frame is in good condition too with traces of usage. (msc)
