The painting has been relined. The inspection under UV light reveals areas of retouching mainly close to the edge, partly under the frame. In the area of the hunting scene there are flecks of retouching. The varnish is somewhat irregular done and shows some dirt. The frame bears a brass plate with the name of the artist and shows marks of use in all.
Eugène Petit (1839-1886)
The artist was born in Paris. He was a pupil of Ed. Müller and Dieterle. Eugène Petit left a considerable oeuvre and his works are in museums in Compiège, Courtai, Rouen and St-Etienne.
