Bernhard Heisig (1925-2011)
Heisig is considered a major representatives of the ‘Leipzig School’ next to Tübke and Mattheuer and also one of the most important contemporary painters and graphic artists of the GDR. Honored with state commissions and numerous awards, Heisig was inspired by the style of painting by artists such as Menzel, Corinth, Kokoschka as well as Max Beckmann and Otto Dix, shifting between modernism and contemporary realism. One of his protégés include the successful painter Neo Rauch. (fea)
