We would like to introduce you to Gretchen Burch, Auctionata Expert in American Painting, Drawings and Sculptures.

Burch has always had a passion for American history and culture with a particular passion for the concept of American identity, as it emerged in the nineteenth century. After completing her M.A. in art history, she joined the American art department at Sotheby’s as a specialist, researching and writing about museum quality objects from artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, John Singer Sargent, and Edward Hopper.

Burch later moved to Chicago to join Leslie Hindman Auctioneers as a lead specialist in the fine Arts department. Here, Burch expanded her knowledge of the art market to include European paintings, impressionist & Modern art, post-war & Contemporary art, and fine prints.

Burch is particularly interested in American artists of the late nineteenth century, such as Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer, a number of whose works she has handled intimately, including a previously unknown work she helped to authenticate.

She currently works as a private art appraiser assisting private collectors and institutions in managing and maintaining their art collections. Additionally, she is a certified member of the prestigious AAA (Appraisers Association of America).

Gretchen Burch lives and works in Chicago.
