We would like to introduce you to Francine Wolterbeek, Auctionata expert in Post War and Contemporary Art, European Art 16th-20th C. as well as Impressionist and Modern Art.
Francine Wolterbeek is an Appraisers Association of America certified freelance fine arts appraiser based in New York City. She has more than 25 years experience in the auction industry at Christie’s in London, Amsterdam, Paris and New York. Since 2012, Francine has worked as an independent appraiser.
The expert studied history of art at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where she obtained a master’s degree examining the work of German and Austrian artists in exile in Great Britain in the 1930s. In 1987, she joined Christie’s in London before she returned to the Netherlands two years later holding specialist positions in various fine arts departments at Christie’s in Amsterdam, Paris and New York until 2012. Her roles included pricing, research, cataloguing and marketing Old Masters, and art of the 19thand 20th century.
Francine frequently participated in large estate appraisals throughout Europe, mainly in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Belgium. She often acted as an appraiser on valuation days, holding lectures throughout Europe and Canada. In New York, she worked closely with the Estates and Appraisals department, contributing her expertise in all categories of fine arts.
In the spring of 2012, Francine established her own company, Francine Wolterbeek LLC, aiming to put the range and depth of her knowledge and experience to broader use as a freelance appraiser. As an independent appraiser, she has worked with private collectors, corporate collections and museums.
