We would like to introduce you to David Pumphrey, Auctionata expert in Antique Furniture and 19th C. painting.

David Pumphrey discovered his enthusiasm for antique furniture and decorative arts in early years and has always been fascinated with its ability to evoke the spirits of times long past.

After his studies of Art History at the Trinity College in Hartford, the expert first worked as assistant and sales employee in various galleries in New York and Princeton. In 1975 he became cataloguer in the department for period furniture for Sotheby’s New York.

He also lived out his passion for antique furniture and decorative arts in his private life. While working for Sotheby's, the expert, together with friends, was living in a farmhouse from the late 18th century, which they carefully furnished with antique findings from the Englishtown flea market and period furniture from secondary auctions.

For over 35 years, David Pumphrey is working as an independent appraiser focusing on insurance and estate matters. As art appraiser, the expert evaluated hundreds of pieces across the USA and worked for various insurance companies and consultancies like Consolidated, Equitable and Masterson & O'Connel. However, he never lost his fascination for the auction world - he has been working as appraiser and cataloguer in the field of antiques for Lichtfield County Auctions since 2010.

David Pumphrey lives and works in New York.
