During 15 years of antique dealing, Zoran Popovic has been business manager and director of two well-known high-end galleries in New York City, as well as owner of his own business specialising in German, French and Belgian antique furniture and Flemish art. Throughout his career he has sourced, inspected and coordinated the restoration and sale of hundreds of pieces of furniture and decorations from continental Europe, especially from Germany, Austria, Scandinavia, Russia and France.
In recent years, Mr. Popovic has been intensively dealing and researching the French, Italian and American art deco and art moderne periods. His latest academic and professional aim is to excel in the history of American decorative arts.
Mr. Popovic is especially passionate about the Biedermeier period. He has researched the subject extensively, and built a rich library and private connections to experts in the field. He spent almost five years managing Ritter Antik, the largest source of finest original Biedermeier furniture in the United States and one of the most important galleries in the world. In this role, he appraised and sold items by, and in the style of, Danhauser, Vogel, Kimbel, Klinkerfuss, Schinkel, the Magiorelli brothers, Hiltl, Kiel, Holl and others.
Mr. Popovic runs his own decorative and fine arts appraisal business with a network of highly qualified consultants. A USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) qualified appraiser, he is deeply familiar with US and international antique laws and codes of ethics.
