We would like to introduce you to George Mullen, Auctionata Expert in 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design.
George Mullen was born in Austria and grew up in England, Austria and France. Being part of an artistically-minded family, the expert was fascinated by antique furniture and applied arts at a very young age. The decision to study furniture restoration and art history in Great Britain was a natural next step for him.
He was not only intrigued by the design and premium furniture itself, but also by the entire auction business. Ever since the first time he visited an auction at the age of six, George Mullen has been captivated by the art trade, spending his teenage summer holidays working for the auction house Christie’s.
This early engagement bore fruit as the expert found employment at Christie’s in London after graduating from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. In the following ten years, George Mullen continued to work in leading positions for some of the most renowned international auction houses and institutions.
After serving as Managing Director of Christie's, George Mullen joined the Dorotheum in Vienna as auctioneer. During those four years, he placed countless works of art with their new owners.
In 2010, he realized his dream of opening his own gallery in Paris. The ‘Galerie Bellechasse’ has been host to artists like Alexandre Mussard, Christian Bazant-Hegemark and Sophie von Hanau, among others. Most recently, George Mullen worked as a representative for the auction houses Bonham´s and Lempertz in Vienna.
Due to his vast experience in the international auction business, George Mullen possesses both a profound expert knowledge of the international art trade as well as an extensive, Europe-wide network of contacts.
George Mullen lives and works in Berlin.
