We would like to introduce you to Dr. Wilfried Karger, Auctionata expert in Socialist Paintings and GDR Art.
Dr. Wilfried Karger studied Art Education and History at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University in Greifswald, Germany, and began his professional career as teacher. He completed his PhD in Berlin at the Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR, and then began working as Department Manager for the Central Committee of the Association of Visual Arts in the former German Democratic Republic. After the fall of the Berlin wall, he founded an artists’ association for printmakers, designers, and arts and crafts artists, as well as scenographers and photographers. Throughout this period of his life, he continued to work as a freelance art historian.
Dr. Wilfried Karger founded the Galerie am Wassertum – Gallery at the Water Tower - in 1994, and for the next decade, his focus was showcasing 20th century figurative sculptures from Berlin-based artists. Currently, Dr. Karger is the Owner of a showroom in Berlin’s Stilwerk, named Kunsthandel Dr. Wilfried Karger, where he exhibits Post-War sculptures from Berlin.
