We would like to introduce you to Günter Höhne, Auctionata Expert in Art and Design of the 20th C.
Günter Höhne was born 1943 in Zwickau and has worked as a cultural journalist in Berlin since 1968. He mainly works in the fields of literature, design, architecture and everyday culture. From 1984 to 1989, he was the chief editor of the East Berlin design trade journal “form+zweck“, followed by a stint as editor and head of department of the national daily newspaper “Neue Zeit“.
In 1993, his hitherto achievements were awarded with the “Bremer Preis für Designpublizistik“ (Bremen prize for design journalism), and in 2007, his journalistic lifetime achievement was honored with the “Lilienthal-Designpreis“ by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Günter Höhne published various books on the subject of East-German as well as German-German design and inter alia curated a comprehensive traveling exhibition of the Grassi Museum for Applied Arts in Leipzig about the past and present of East-German design with the title “gebrauchs gut. Ostdeutsches Design mit Tradition“ (Consumer durables – East-German design with tradition). Displayed from 2003 to 2005, the exhibition attracted 60.000 visitors in Leipzig, Frankfurt and Hanover.
In the past 20 years, the expert and his wife gathered two extensive private collections of East-German product culture. The objects and its documentations became a part of the collections of the Grassi Museum for Applied Arts in Leipzig (2004) and of the Die Neue Sammlung (The New Collection) in Munich (2013).
Since 2009, Günter Höhne works frequently as a design expert for the MDR television series “Damals war's“ as well as for “Kunst&Krempel“ since 2012.
