The painting is discolored consistent with age and bears tiny craquelure in some places. Overall are scattered retouched spots. The overall impression is good.
Otto Friedrich Geleng (1843-1939)
Otto Friedrich Geleng, born in 1843 in Berlin, went to Rome at the beginning of the 1860s before he shortly afterwards established himself permanently in Taormina/Sicily. The work of the artist primarily shows atmospheric South Italian landscapes. Thus, the view over the sea and towards Mount Etna belonged to the favorite subjects of the artist. Since the beginning of the 1870s Geleng was mayor of Taormina for ten years. His son Angelo Gèleng became a painter as well. (msc)
