The sheets are in good condition, slightly discolored due to the age and tiny damages to the edges can be seen in some places. The portfolio box bears a few marks.
Heinrich Hoerle (1895-1936)
The Cologne painter and graphic artist Heinrich Hoerle attended the arts school of his hometown around 1912 and was a pupil of the Italian painter Pietro Malmesi. After his expressionist beginnings Hoerle's work was later characterized by sociocritical subjects among others because of his wartime experiences. One his important works was the portfolio 'Krüppelmappe'. After World War I, he belonged to the circle of the Cologne Dada movement around Johannes Baargeld and Max Ernst. In the 1920s the artist turned to a figurative constructivism. Basically his oeuvre is characterized at different times by New Objectivity, constructivism as well as by surrealism. (msc)
