    Additional Information & Condition

    Posthumously published in 1960, Prodromus astronomiae depicts 1,564 stars and their constellations. The work consists of three parts: the foreword (Prodromus), the star catalogue (Catalogus Stellarum) and the atlas of the constellations (Firmamentum Sobiescianum, Sive Uranographia). The achievements of the Gdansk astronomer were establishing new constellations and enhanced depiction of the southern night sky.


    The celestial map is in very good condition. The cutout of the mat with an age-related light light-staining. The depiction shows slight discolored stain in the area of the lower centered margin. Handwritten french annotations of the 18th Century including the CIty names of Besancon and Lyon in faded ink on the reverse. (bde)
