The Austin Motor Company was founded by Herbert Austin in Birmingham in 1905. In the 1920s the company produced the Austin 7, an inexpensive small car intended for a mass market. As of 1927 the Austin Seven was produced under license in Germany, production was stopped with the outbreak of WW II and was never resumed. In 1952 Austin merged with Morris under the roof of the British Motor Corporation. From then on Austin models were also sold under the name of other brands in the parent company. The brand name Austin was kept until 1987 and is currently property of SAIC.
