Carl Arp (1867-1913)
Born in Kiel, Carl Arp was a cousin of the artist and poet Hans Arp and studied under the guidance of Theodor Hagen and Leopold von Kalckreuth at the Weimar Art School, the later Weimar Academy. He then spent several years in Italy. In 1891, he continued his studies under Theodor Hagen in Weimar. From 1912, he worked as a professor in Kiel and Weimar. Arp created especially oil paintings and watercolors, featuring German landscapes with views of his native Schleswig-Holstein and the Fjords in Kiel, as well as motifs from his trips to southern Germany, the Alps and Italy.
