The painting is in overall good condition. It shows only little craquelure, which is especially visible in sidelight. The varnish is slightly soiled, in the margins somewhat irregular because of a former framing. The frame has only few small scratches.
Viggo Fauerholdt (1832 – 1883)
The painter was born in Copenhagen. From 1846 - 1852 he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown. Until 1867 he exhibited regularly marine paintings in Castle Charlottenborg. In 1865 Fauerholdt traveled to Germany with a scholarship, from now on he lived and worked in Düsseldorf. (hth)
