Jens Peter Møller (1783-1854)
From 1799-1803, the artist absolved an apprenticeship as house painter in Schleswig and continued studying at the Art Academy in Copenhagen from 1803-09. His teachers there were among others Nicolai Abildgaard and Christian August Lorentzen. With the help of a scholarship he was also able to complete a training as a conservator and restorer in Brussels and Paris. Study trips led Møller through Switzerland, to Bornholm and Norway. Over time, he worked at various institutions as curator, e.g. in 1834 as curator of Count Moltke’s art collection. At the same time Møller was also active as teacher at the Søkadet-Akademiet, later he became a professor at the Art Academy in Copenhagen. His works are part of many museums’ collections, including the open-air museum Den Gamle By in Arhus, the Sønderborg Castle Museum and the City Museum in Copenhagen. (nlu)
