Bio

  • Over 32 years experience
  • Scholar of horology
  • Restored over 6,000 and sold over 1,400 vintage timekeepers
  • Founder of Bell-Time Clocks in Massachusetts

Bob Frishman has repaired, collected and sold clocks for over 32 years. He has restored over 6,000 and sold over 1,400 vintage timekeepers. In 1992, he founded Bell-Time Clocks, named after an engraving by Winslow Homer depicting New England mill buildings and workers. He also exhibits and sells restored antique clocks at fairs.

As a scholar of horology, Mr. Frishman has published numerous articles. He gives lectures on clock-related topics to historical societies, service organisations and academic groups, and also writes catalogue descriptions and sets price estimates for one of America’s oldest and largest auction houses dealing in antique timepieces.

Most recently, he has begun a series on ‘Horology in Art’, showcasing in each exhibit a well-known artwork which includes a clock in the image. The series combines art history with the significance of the timekeeper and features works by artists such as David, Titian, Dali and Matisse.

He loves the combination of art, in the wide spectrum of clock case designs, materials and styles; science, in the centuries of intellectual and mechanical work to achieve higher and higher degrees of timekeeping accuracy and durability; and history, in the industrial and cultural impact of clocks in our society.
