Arbitration in case of a dispute

Auctionata’s authenticity guarantee assures you peace of mind and goes beyond the auction process itself. It gives the buyer a 25-year guarantee for every item sold.

Should you have any doubts about the authenticity of an item purchased on Auctionata, our arbitration process provides absolute clarity. In case of uncertainty, we will commission a certified, impartial expert to provide a professional opinion on the authenticity of the item in question.

If the expert’s findings confirm your doubts are valid, you will be able to return the item and receive a full refund.

What is forgery?

We define a forgery as any item presented at the time of the auction that is a copy intended to deceive potential buyers with regards to its origin, period, material or age.

The only exceptions to this definition are replicas that have been explicitly identified as such by Auctionata, such as museum replicas. These do not fall under our definition of forgery.

Imitation works of art (or any other items, from historical documents to classic cars) are defined as forgeries if the fact that they are imitation has not been made clear in the listing.

If an item is not the work of the artist or creator stated either in the listing or indicated by the signature, it is defined as a forgery.

An item that is not from the period stated in the listing is also defined as a forgery. This definition does not apply if the listing provides no date for the item or states that the age is unknown.
